“We’re great chefs!” – Interview with Antonio Zitarelli and Luca T.Mai of Mombu

There are only a few people from Italy I’ve met so far, who didn’t care at all about football. Antonio Zitarelli and Luca T.Mai of extraordinary band Mombu are among those few. Instead of following games and statistics this duo is focused on creating music of unbelievable spontaneity and energy. And guess what, Luca and Antonio are also very into… cooking!

Luca T. Mai is a saxophone player known from Italian band Zu. Antonio’s, drummer, skills we were able to observe in another Italian band, Neo. Both guys joined forces in Mombu, duo, that creates a unique musical chemistry through mixing African rhythms and jazz together. The result is mysterious, disturbing, engaging, to say least. Watching the band performing live is one-of-a-kind experience. And guys themselves are very easy-going, funny, willing to talk. We are happy, that Mombu agreed to play on 4th installment of Asymmetry Festival. Here is what Luca and Antonio had to say a few weeks before the show. Enjoy and share with your friends!

Emotionally honest – Interview with Colin H. van Eeckhout, vocalist of Amenra

Phenomenal Belgian band Amenra is no stranger to Asymmetry Festival at all. And they remember very well, that Firlej crew, responsible for organizing the event, help them a few years back to expose their magnificent art to Polish audience.

On Asymmetry Festival 2012 the band established in 1999 in Kortrijk will perform twice! Fans are to witness an acoustic and a “traditional” show. Those, who are familiar with Amenra live know, that Belgian band delivers something unique and very emotional. There are screamy vocal of Colin H. van Eeckhout, low tones and harsh riffs, immersed in a post-hardcore/sludge stylistic and dark, magical atmosphere. We talked to Colin a few weeks prior to the band’s shows on Asymmetry Festival 2012. As a result we know, that Amenra will be playing some new stuff from long-awaited album “Mass V”, which still is in the works! And Polish fans will be the first to experience it! Isn’t it a great news?! Some more you will find in a transcript of our conversation with Colin. Enjoy!

It will be more interesting- A chat with Robert Chmielewski and Tomek Jurek, the director and executive producer of Asymmetry Festival, respectfully.

Administering the long May weekend time is not  a problem for lots of fans of alternative music in Poland. That’s the time when Asymmetry Festival takes place in Wrocław. The annual event, which attracts fames of alternative rock, metal, electronics, rap and jazz. The fourth edition will take place from May 3rd till May 5th, 2012. And will be a little different than the previous ones.

Asymmetry Festival came to be thanks to a co-operation between Robert Chmielewski, the director of Ośrodek Działan Artystycznych [Centre for Artistic Activities] “Firlej”, and Tomek Jurek, a marketer who fell in love with independent music, an organizer of numerous shows of alternative artists in Poland. It all began in 2009. The festival which was held in “Firlej” for three editions, gained a respectable reputation in Poland, as well as abroad. The fourth meeting will be quite different. Foremost, the event will take place in a different location for the first time – the Browar Mieszczański [Bourgeois Brewery]. It won’t lack in legends of the alternative, like Killing Joke and Sleep. Other ways it’ll be different? What was the biggest surprise so far? These are the questions, among others, answered by Robert Chmielewski and Tomek Jurek.
