Asymmetry Festival announces again!

Asymmetry Festival organizers have announced new projects that will present to enthusiasts of alternative voices in the Firlej club! This time powerful guitar set consists of rebellious sludge metal band Torche, the recognized representatives of the American stoner rock: Black Pyramid and Lo-Pan and Japanese prog-hardcore masters, Zeni Geva.

Torche is a stoner rock band formed by vocalist/guitarist Steve Brooks in 2004 after the dissolution of cult, sludge/stoner metal pioneers Floor. The group introduced the world to a refreshingly unique version of rock n’ roll.  Originally from Miami, Florida, but now peppered across the country, Torche has spent the last 10 years shattering ears and captivating crowds with their infectiously original heavy rock complete with soaring, harmonic vocals.  BBC wrote about their album from 2012 “Harmonicraft”: “a true game-changer…swaddled in glorious shimmers, ecstatically joyous guitar work and strange bouts of QOTSA-gone-Jesu abandon that are lush, plush and large enough to warrant their own postcode.” In February next year, will see the light of day a new album from the band entitled “Restarter”.

Black Pyramid play doom with the rumbling down-tuned tones of stoner metal gods like Sleep, Electric Wizard, and High On Fire, but with the epic arrangements of old school metal and doom acts such as Black Sabbath, Pentagram, and The Obsessed.  Add to the sonic brew perfectly executed forays into vintage psych and progressive rock, along with the apocalyptic lyrical ravings about war, the occult,  and general alienation, and you’ve got an accurate picture of what the band is all about. The last longplay of Black Pyramid , entitled “Adversarial”, which was released in 2013, is a perfect example of how should sound fresh, brilliant and evocative contemporary stoner.

Founded in Columbus Lo-Pan as the source of their inspiration gives stoner metal and post rock.  It is from these ingredients band prepares a musical mixture. The sounds generated by Lo-Pan should appeal to seekers of expressive melodies, energetic, but not overwhelming guitars and melodic vocals. Lo-Pan released in October this year, third album “Colossus”. Sputnik Music wrote about it: “Lo-Pan remain in strong form on their fourth album, performing heavy rock that’s at once infectious and distinctly ambitious”.

Zeni Geva is a Japanese prog-hardcore band, led by singer and guitarist KK Null, one pioneering group of innovators and legends. Band was founded in Tokyo in 1987 and quickly found a dedicated fan base in Europe and the US. Their popularity in the west enabled Zeni Geva to be one of the first Japanese bands to tour in Europe and the US with bands like: Worship,, Melvins Neurosis and more. Steve Albini rates Zeni Geva as one of his favorite bands.  He highlights the band’s wide range of influences for keeping the Zeni Geva sound diverse and challenging. Steve also admires the way Zeni Geva embrace the Japanese culture in their sound rather than trying to Westernize it. Band  has released 12 albums.

Let’s recall that participation in the festival also confirmed: Anaal Nathrakh, Matt Elliott and Petrels. Upcoming 6th edition of Asymmetry Festival will take place between April, 30 – May, 3 in 2015.
