Thrilling alt country of Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, killing riffs of Swallow The Sun, gloomy folk of DARKHER, intoxicating acoustic sounds of DBUK and devastating doom metal performed by Conan - so presents the first set of performers that will appear at Asymmetry Festival 2016. The event will be held in Firlej Club in the Polish city of Wroclaw on 22-24 September.
Asymmetry is an important place on the map of European music festivals. Place, where new trends are created, a meeting place of cultures, attitudes and people who create contemporary culture. The festival is organized in Wrocław since 2009 and its core program is exceeding the music genres boundaries such as metal, rock, jazz, electronics and pop. The audience can only see the uncompromising artists boldly drawing on the tradition of popular music, using the latest sounds compilations. Many of the invited artists present in Poland for the first time. This year’s event edition will take place on 22-24 September in Firlej Club. Slim Cesna’s Auto Club – engaging, riveting, sad and humorous; demanding the audience to participate both live and while listening to their albums; Slim Cessna’s Auto Club has been branded with every musical description possible. This seems fitting, as SCAC describes their music as American (Is that not what America is and has been, a mixture of every one and thing resulting in something new?); and after two decades of working and living as SCAC, they have created their own genre. Jello Biafra said about them “This is the country band that plays the bar at the end of the world”, and Rolling Stone (Germany) wrote “What energy and soul!”
Swallow The Sun – Finland’s death-doom luminaries were born at the turn of the millennium when guitarist Juha Raivio gathered some friends together to start a band. With their debut, “The Morning Never Came”, the group was chosen as the newcomer of the year in “Inferno Magazine”, and the album received a full 5 K’s review in Kerrang!, which proclaimed it as “one of doom metal’s finest moments to date”. With their second full-length, “Ghosts Of Loss”, the band climbed to #8 on the Finnish album charts. This momentous occasion, together with heavy touring both in Finland and abroad, laid the groundwork for SWALLOW THE SUN’s skyrocketing success. Last group album titled “Songs From The North I, II & III” was released in late 2015 and collects excellent reviews in the world’s music press.
DARKHER – is the alias of Singer and Spellcaster Jayn H Wissenberg. Following herself produced Debut EP ‘The Kingdom Field’ released on Prophecy label – Germany, the sound has been described as ” Ghostly Transmissions” and ‘Hauntingly evocative music to stir the soul”. Joining forces live and in the studio with Guitarist Martin T Wissenberg and Drummer Shaun ‘Winter’ Taylor-Steels (My Dying Bride, Anathema) The Full length Album is Scheduled for release in 2016. 3rd Eye Magazine wrote “”The riffs brought to mind Souls At Zero era Neurosis, with Sigur Rós style embellishments from Martin taking up the E-bow, slide guitar and Violin bow to fully effect the scuzzy and repetitive arpeggios Jayn plays as the backbone to these songs. Shaun keeps the metronomic pace as excruciatingly slow as an arctic sunset”.
DBUK – Also known as Denver Broncos UK, quartet features core Auto Club members Slim Cessna, Dwight Pentacost, Munly Jay Munly and Rebecca Vera, and plays a beautifully haunting brand of stark acoustic-gloom that will inevitably send shivers down the spines of the most seasoned fans. Having worked with an array of prominent musicians in the past, including members of Devotcha, Tarantelle, and David Edwards of 16 Horsepower, DBUK lead-vocalist and celebrated alt-country songwriter / storyteller Jay Munly’s voice is equal parts Peter Murphy and Nick Cave, and contrasts beautifully with Rebecca Vera’s falsetto on a number of the tracks on their only album “Songs One Through Eight”.
Conan – With monolithic tones and barbarian tales, Conan were born to destroy. 2015 has seen Conan venture into Skythammer Studio with Chris Fielding at the helm, to write the follow up to Blood Eagle. On the back of an EU tour with Ufomammut, and a headline US tour they will soon bear to the world their heaviest material to date, showing off the new found agility and cutting edge borne from the new lineup of Jon Davis, Chris Fielding and Rich Lewis. Festivals such as Maryland Deathfest or Psycho California have seen Conan rise from a band who proudly patrolled the UK underground scene to true flag bearers of HEAVY riffs, totally at home on the big stage. Their shows are already the stuff of legend and the follow up to Blood Eagle promises to be breathtakingly powerful, Conan’s conquering days have just begun – 2016 promises to be an exciting year.
